Kandariya Mahadeva Temple - The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, is the largest and most ornate Hindu temple in the medieval temple group found at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, India.
This medieval marvel dates back to 1050 BC and was built by Raja Dhandadeva, a strong Chandela ruler. The temple is embellished with ornate carvings and sculptures. Its main spire (Shikhara) depicts Mount Kailash and stands with a height of 31 meters. This temple is dedicated to Hindu Lord Shiva, and has a Shiva Linga made of marbel, as its sanctum. About 646 statues are installed in its boundary that looks even more appealing.
Kandariya Mahadev Temple occupies an area of about 6,500 square feet and rises 117 feet above ground level. Kandariya Mahadev faces east.
the ornate carvings on the pillars, walls and ceilings of the interior as well as the exterior of the temple include depictions of kama, artha, dharma and moksa - the four just and necessary pursuits of life.
The whole building is made of sandstone, with a granite foundation.
The quality of the carving is especially high due to the superior quality of the sandstone used. As a result sculptors were able to represent fine details including strands of hair, manicured nails and intricate jewellery.
As it happens, the temple's outside surfaces contain one of the most extensive arrays of erotic relief sculpture in the world, although much of the iconography is symbolic.
Lakshmana Temple - The Lakshmana Temple is a 10th-century Hindu temple built by Yashovarman located in Khajuraho, India. This temple is located in the Western Temple complex in Khajuraho.
The central deity at the Lakshmana temple is an image of Vishnu in his three-headed form known as Vaikuntha who sits inside the temple’s inner womb chamber also known as garba griha.
