The contemporary painting featured here is a delicate work of art, done by hand on velvet cloth. This painting shows a Rajasthani woman in traditional attire. She has a ghunghat (veil) on her head and is dressed in the customary Rajasthani ghagra choli (full flair skirt and bodice-like blouse), filled with embroidery, mirror and bead work. She also wears the typical Rajasthani headgear, jhumkas (long dangling earrings) and an elaborate necklace. Married Rajasthani women wear huge white bangles on the whole hand, extending from the top of the arms to the wrists. So this painting too, depicts a married woman.
Rajasthani clothes are very much in demand for their rich needlework, appliqué and sequins work. The woman in this painting is shown doing some needlework on a long piece of cloth.
